Comune di Satriano
Satriano, a small municipality wedged between Davoli and the large territorial extension of Soverato. Famous for its dairy production and the excellent dairy products made there, thanks also to the rich pastures and abundance of water from the Ancinale river that descends from the Serre, the small centre extends more widely inland, historically associated with Cardinale, with which it formed a single feud that had among its feudal lords the Ravaschieri and Filangieri princes. The historical centre, perched on a steep hill, is dominated by the Mother Church of Santa Maria di Altavilla with its elegant façade flanked by two bell towers. Interesting buildings rebuilt after the severe earthquake of 1783 bear the signs of the great artistic influence of nearby Serra San Bruno. Pietro Drosi was born in Satriano, the progenitor of a family of 19th-century sculptors who produced numerous works of sacred art in the region, many of which are the object of great devotion by the people of Calabria.
